The following is a lived inquiry reflection on one of my recent transformative art experiments exploring the potential for capturing and expressing the wholistic felt-sense (gestalt) of a state-of-being connected with the felt-sense of the state of the world (Zeitgeist) in these strange times we find ourselves in…
Process Notes
Everything seems to be moving so fast in these profoundly challenging times.
I feel like both my inner and outer realities are in a state of constant accelerated change. Living inside history, a history unfolding at an exponential rate.
I came to this felt-sense awareness while I was rewatching The Matrix movies. It hit me that the Bullet Time sequences were a beautiful cinematic representation of being fully present in each moment as it exists in the flow of time. This idea of being in the moment as a flow state and not a static frozen state felt closer to what I was feeling.
After this awareness hit me, I felt called to use the Night Cafe AI text-to-image art engine to generate an image that represented this state of being. The images generated were interesting but not quite hitting the spot. There was a sense of bullet time but the images were too static feeling and not chaotic enough to capture the feeling I was feeling.
Then I felt a pull toward one of the images (see image below) with the thought of playing with it some more and seeing if I find that creative sweet spot of transformation.
I fed it into the Oilist AI art app and played with it there and created the image at the top of this post. As that image emerged it hit me. This new image represented for me that different state of being I had been feeling lately…
That state of being that feels like life has become some strange constantly changing hyper-reality dimension where space and time are moving so fast that it transforms the moment into the perfect polar opposite of being in a static NOW... a present moment in time rather than a present moment out of time.
Now when I am enter this state of being I imagine I am Neo surfing the slow flowing waves of the high speed inner and outer ever-changing present-moment NOW…
This whole process helped me discern
two distinct forms of presence in my life experiences:
Being present in the moment
and being present in the midst.
